Japanese Immigration

The Japanese Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law sets out the basic regulation of entry and residence for foreign nationals. Foreign nationals residing in Japan are authorized to engage in activities which are granted under their status of residence at the time of their entry into Japan, and are permitted to stay for a period determined for each status of residence. When you wish to apply for procedures regarding entry and status of residence yourself, you need to go to the regional Immigration Bureau. However, you have to take days off at work and stand in a long queue to go through complicated procedures. If you contract our service, you basically do not have to appear at the regional Immigration Bureau at all. We also deal with naturalization procedures at the Ministry of Justice.

Procedures for Entry and Residence
 1. When foreign nationals are outside of Japan
Certificate of Eligibility
A Company or proxy in Japan will request the issuing of the Certificate of Eligibility at the regional Immigration Bureau. Once issued, an applicant will bring the Certificate of Eligibility to Japanese Embassy or Consulate abroad and make the visa application to enter Japan.
 2. When foreign nationals are already in Japan
Changing status of residence
It is necessary to go through certain procedures at the regional Immigration Bureau when a foreign national wish to change one's current status of residence. For instance, an application for changing status of residence is required if a college student plans to be employed in Japan after graduation.
Re-entry permit
When a foreign national who has an appropriate visa wants to leave Japan on business or personal reasons, it is necessary to go through certain procedure at the regional Immigration Bureau to obtain a re-entry permit. Without the permit, he or she may not be allowed to reenter Japan even if one retains a proper visa.
Extension of period of stay
The period of stay is determined together with the status of residence at the time of entry or changing status. When a foreign national wish to extend the period of stay, he or she would need to apply to extend the period of stay before the expiry date.
Permit for outside-status activities
When a college or pre-college student intends to engage in a part-time job, he or she needs to
obtain a permit in advance from the regional Immigration Bureau. Please note that working hours for this type of employment are limited to up to 28 hours a week.
Permanent residence
When a foreign national wishes to live in Japan permanently, he or she needs to apply for permanent residence status. If this status is granted, the resident's activity is unlimited and the period of stay shall be indefinite.
